U.S. Bancorp Credit card department,
I had both a - - - " Fidelity Investment Rewards '' Visa and an - -. When Fidelity migrated the card servicing to Elan -/-/2016, both cards were issued as a Visa. I called Elan to request the cards be merged so I did n't have - identical cards. They assured me it 'd be no issue. Two weeks later they called and said they needed to know which account I wanted merged into which. I said I did n't care. They said it 'd be done in a couple days. Today I received an alert from my credit monitoring service that Elan did a hard credit inquiry on - or more credit bureaus. I was absolutely shocked. Nobody even mentioned that would happen, and if they did I would have said absolutely not, do n't bother merging the accounts if that was a requirement. It 's illegal to run a hard inquiry without a customer 's consent, and that 's precisely what Elan has done. This letter serves as notice of dispute of the hard inquiry ( ies ). I demand that Elan contact all three credit bureaus and have the inquiry removed immediately. I am also sending this as a complaint to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau because Elan 's actions violated my rights as a consumer. Please respond within the required 30 day timeframe confirming all credit inquiries posted without my authorization have been removed.
