I went in today to redeem my rewards points on my Elan Financial Services credit card. I had enough to redeem $170.00. I was unable to redeem this online and called in. The rep said that my account was closed by collections. I asked how this was the case since I have always been on time with payments and my account is at a - balance. After 40 minutes on the phone with them and being blamed for it all I was finally informed why. They said correspondence, likely marketing, was returned to them in - that they mailed me in -. This one piece of return mail forced them to close my account. The first person I spoke with said they had been receiving " all kinds of return mail '' from me. The manager later informed me it was only once. The acknowledged that they had since successfully sent mail to me and I had made payments and purchases since -. Since my card was schedule to renew in - and they received the return mail - they decided in - to close the account. I had this account for three years and was never late. I asked to see where in the cardmember agreement it states their ability to do this and they had no answer for me. The could mail me an agreement and it would takes weeks to receive one. This can not be accessed online. They say the only resolution is for me to write a letter to them asking to reopen the account. I would need to include all of the information that is requested on a credit application so they can evaluate and then decide whether or not to reopen the account and whether or not they will pay me the $170.00 cash value of the rewards points I earned.
