American Express canceled my account on -/-/-. The only reason they gave me was that the account was " fraudulent '' although there were no unauthorized charges on my account. They went on say that their fraud unit did an investigation and found my account to be fraudulent. The Amex rep would not tell me too much but implied that someone claiming to be me told Amex that he ( I ) never applied for an Amex card. I have been an Amex member since -/-/-, at the same address and the same phone number. No one from Amex called me or wrote to verify my identity or to questions me about this alleged fraud although I have been receiving my Amex bills at the same address for years and have never missed a payment. I found out that my Amex account on -/-/- was closed when - billed Amex as they every month for my internet service and the charge was denied. AME- never informed me that they had closed my account. I can not understand how their fraud unit did an investigation on my account and Amex never contacted me for anything. Also on my online Amex account they list the last - digits on your account. The - digits were not the last - digits on my Amex account, which I also informed the rep. I also receive a paper statement from Amex and it had the correct - digits from my account. In summary, Amex had no right to close account without contacting me, interviewing me or at least informing of what they intended to do. They gave me very little information as to the specific nature of my account being " fraudulent ''.
