Medical Disclosure verification of debt Right to dispute notice not received Illinois

We have never received notification from this agency regarding a medical bill. The only way we found out about this debt was through a derogatory collection mark placed on the credit bureau report. We want to pay the debt, but feel the item should be removed from the CBR because we did not receive notification of the debt. The agency will not remove the item, says the can update. Claims they have validation we knew about debt. This is not true. The numbers they gave and stated they were contacting us were not even our phone numbers. We just updated them with the correct number when we submitted the dispute. The item should be removed from the CBR as we were never given time to dispute this before it was placed on the CBR. We never received any notice until we disputed the debt in - 2016.
