Installment loan Problems when you are unable to pay Maryland

I had a debt with - and when I could n't pay they sold it to a company called Midland Credit who then sued me when I did n't pay them, so I have been paying them for about 7 months now and I just found out they are a scam, so I have been throwing my money away, which I really want back and have asked them and the - several times, but ca n't get anywhere. The paperwork that I have for them says they can sue me again if I do n't pay them and garnish me, so I am scared, but I am sickened that I am paying a fake company and in the end this debt will still be on my credit. Is there anything that I can do?
