The debt collector has repeatedly called and sent messages. i have responded in writing on five separate occasions. the collector alleges that i have a debt in excess of a $1000.00 for subrogation of an insurance claim from an auto incident that occurred in -/-/- in - -. There was an incident but the police determined that there was no liability and that they could not assign fault and clearly stated that each insurance company should pay the damage ( mine was a rented car and - - covered the damage to my car ). neither the police nor any court made a determination of liability but Afni insisted that - ( the other persons insurance company ) determined I was liable. They do not respond to my written explanations and after researching them, I have learned that they have often destroyed people 's credit ratings based on circumstances such as these. On the phone, they repeatedly state I am liable but I am unclear on how legally a company is able to unilaterally ascertain liability and hire a credit agency to harass a person.
