Other (phone, health club, etc.) Disclosure verification of debt Right to dispute notice not received Colorado
I was notified through a credit monitoring service that I have a collection outstanding with Professional Finance Company - -, -, Colorado. I contacted them on Friday - -, 2015, in order to get verification that 1. ) the debt is valid and 2. ) information regarding from whom the alleged debt is being collected, 3. ) any sort of proof that I was properly served by the alleged debt collector and/or the debt collection agency ( i.e. a certifiied mail receipt or something like that. ) The representative refused to give me proper information and stated that if I were to determine that the debt was valid ( which I 'm not sure that it is ) that I get a letter from them, on their letterhead, signed by an authorized representative that the collection is paid in full with a $0.00 balance and that any obligation to them is fully released, and that they will report this information to the appropriate credit bureaus within 30 days. If they are going to hold my credit hostage I should have some reassurance other than their word they will report accurately to the credit bureaus. They have already proven that they are willing to report collection information on my credit report without proof of notification that the debt exists. It would be unreasonable for them to not provide me with any evidence to protect my credit and my good name if I were to 1. ) acknowledge the debt exists, 2. ) not provide me with any sort of documentation to prove to the credit bureaus that the collection is paid if they fail for any reason to report the truth. In the near future I would like to buy a house, and as a former mortgage originator I know that in order to get a home a lender is going to require that I pay the alleged debt regardless if it is valid or not. The debt collection practices are both deceptive and unfair in my opinion.
