During a recent review of my credit file, I discovered a collection account that had just been added to my report. On -/-/- I contacted the collection agency via certified mail, to request debt verification. I received a response on -/-/-, which contained a generic printout with very basic information. The agency did not provided a copy of a signed contract with the original creditor, or a written statement from the original creditor. The agency did not provide any competent proof whatsoever that I am indeed the party responsible for this debt. Furthermore, the miscellaneous notes on the provided document indicate that the original debt occurred on -/-/-, which is considerably more than FCRA allows negative information to be reported.
