Amex Credit card department,
AME- reported me to the credit agency because my credit card was - $100.00 over the $10000.00 credit limit. I have been am AME- customer for twenty ( 20 ) years. I was n't late or delinquent. In fact, my card is set up for auto payment, so I thought I would never have to worry about paying or checking my statement. When I spoke to AME-, they said that rather than deny my use of the card, when it went over my credit limit, they instead unilaterally decided to offer me the courtesy '' of not having my charge denied. This is completely unacceptable. I would much rather have my card denied, at the credit limit set for that card, than have my credit score negatively impacted. I have other cards and other means to pay for things. I do not have any way to get my now diminished credit score back. Something is very broken at AME- for this situation to arise. I get electronic alerts from AME- whenever anything looks amiss with regard to fraud, etc., I 'm baffled as to why AME- could n't have automatically sent me an email letting me know they had approved charges above my credit limit so I could pay off some of my balance. I 've NEVER been late in paying my balance in twenty years. This is totally unacceptable. I hope CFPB is able to do something about this. Thank you in advance ...
