In -/-/- I purchased a 12-month Certificate of Deposit for $250000.00 from Synchrony Bank ( then called GE Capital Bank ) from money which came from the sale of our house, which would be needed in -, -/-/- to pay the large capital gains tax on the house. I sent instructions to Synchrony Bank to immediately transfer the money when the CD was mature to my checking account at - - -, and I provided them with a voided check with the bank routing number and my account number at - - -. Synchrony Bank sent the money with an incorrect account number to - - - on - - ( this bank error was acknowledged by the supervisor at Synchrony Bank, - -, telephone - - - extension - ). The money was returned by - - - - Synchrony Bank on - - because of the incorrect account number. Synchrony Bank, through - -, acknowledges receiving the money on - - but as of now, over - hours later they


to my money, that they are working on it, and that there is no one I can talk to at the bank who can solve the problem. It is now likely that I will not be able to pay my income taxes next week and will thus incur significant interest and penalties on the tax owed ( over $200000.00 ). I am now retired and have minimal income and no other way to raise this money. I have been treated very poorly by Synchrony Bank both in their incompetence in using an incorrect account number and in their alleged inability to fix the problem or to find my money even though they acknowledge it is somewhere in their own bank system. This amounts to negligence, incompetence, and possibly fraud and will have a materially harmful effect on my wife and me.
