Amex Credit card department,
I received a prescreened marketing ad for the American Express gold card in - -/-/2015 and researched the card online. I decided to open the American Express - - - card with a $100.00 statement credit for spending $1000.00 instead. I made my - purchase with the card on -/-/-/-/2015. Within a week of receiving my card, American Express sent me a $250.00 statement credit offer if I spent $1000.00 in the - 3 months if I use RSVP code -. I called to request that this code be applied to my new account, and the representative told me she could not apply the credit. She suggested I try to close my current account and re-open a new account with that RSVP code to get the $250.00 statement credit. Following this representatives instructions would cause me to incur a negative credit impact and also a possible balance transfer fee. I feel that since my account is still within the - billing cycle and I received this prescreened offer addressed to me from American Express, that this company should honor the $250.00 statement credit without making me close my current account and open a new account.
