Credit card Taking/threatening an illegal action Threatened to sue on too old debt California
This account was established over 10 years ago. I closed it by choice between - and -. I informed the creditor at that time that I needed to arrange a lump sum payoff settlement amount because of financial hardship but they declined my offer. However, I continued to make the minimum monthly payments until -. In -, I became financially unable to make the payments anymore and the account went into default. Recently, my husband was given a summons by the lawyer of the creditor for a law suit against me. I called the lawyer and tried to negotiate a lump sum settlement amount of $3000.00 but it was denied because he said it was too low. I can not afford the $6000.00 settlement he countered. The main point is that the debt is too old to be sued on and the debt has been discharged on my credit report for quite some time now.
